On My Mind

Jimi's 30th birthday is coming up and I'm so excited!  I found an idea on Pinterest for 30 gifts for someone's 30th birthday.  Jimi has had a hard time with the idea of turning 30.  I have to admit when you sit and think about it, it is rather depressing.  I'm 8 months older than him so I dealt with this back in May, but for some reason it didn't affect me the way it is him.  We have had a lot of fun in our 20's and we have accomplished so much!  From concerts, to partying, graduating college, getting our first "real" jobs, getting our first place together (a 2 bedroom apartment that we both sometimes still miss), buying our first house, getting a dog, going back to school (me for my Master's, Jimi for his Law degree), and finally getting pregnant and having our baby Ava together, our 20's have been amazing!  Jimi told me that he feels like he can't be goofy and all the fun stops once you turn 30.  I've tried to reassure him that he can still be his goofy, crazy self!  Anyway, I hope he likes his 30 gifts!  I've put together a document that lists everything out just so I can keep it all straight.  I've bought about 5 things so far, but I'm going to have to do the bulk of the shopping in the next 2 weeks.

Ava is sick right now.  I feel so bad for her.  She was great all Winter break when she was home with me for 2 weeks.  I think it was 2 days into daycare and she had a running nose and a diaper rash.  Now she's got a slight cough, she sounds congested, and whenever she wakes up she sounds super hoarse.  Thankfully, she hasn't run a fever, is still able to sleep well, and still has a good appetite.  Since this Monday is a federal holiday, Jimi has the day off of work.  So, Ava can stay home for a 3-day weekend if she needs it.  This has just been one of the longest colds she's ever had.

Now that it's January, I'm on the downward slope to the end of the school year.  This was my first year teaching fourth grade and now I have taught 4 different grade levels in the span of 8 years (not by choice).  I will be applying to a different school district as well as to a different elementary school within my district.  I will be switching schools, no matter what.  I disagree with my principal on so many fundamental levels and can no longer trust her.  I can't work in an environment like that any longer.  She was hired 5 years ago after I had already been there 3 years before.  By sticking around for 5 years, I have given her many chances to learn and grow as a principal and things have only gotten worse.  It's time for a change.  It will be very different, but I'm excited to see where I'll end up because that's the school that Ava will go to in just a few short years.

We will be putting our house on the market (again) in February.  It was on the market last year for 3 months and even though we had several interested parties, our realtor did not follow up with any of them and it ended in disaster.  With spring approaching and the prospect of a new realtor we are ready to get it back on the market.  I'm not looking forward to having it spotless every single day, especially since we don't have a dishwasher and we have a 1 1/2 year old who leaves messes in her wake all the time!  But, it will be necessary.  We will have lived here 7 years in June and are ready to expand into a bigger house (with a dishwasher)!  I'm curious to see how Ava will react to being in a new house.  I hope it doesn't upset her too much, but that's still months away.

Well, that's all the big stuff for now...until later!
