20 Week Ultrasound

On Wednesday, January 23 we had our very first ultrasound.  It was amazing to finally see our baby for the first time!  We both got a little teary from the happiness.  It was so wonderful, that it hardly seemed real.  Jimi said it was like watching a movie.  We both knew the TV we were watching was showing our baby, but had to continually remind ourselves of that fact.

The technician zoomed in on all of the different body parts and would tell us what each one was.  I loved seeing each part, especially the heart beating, but the best was when she would zoom out and we could see the whole body.  To watch the head, chest, legs, arms, hands, spine, and everything working together as one just gave me such a sense of relief.  Our baby was perfect and looked so healthy.

The technician asked us if we had any names picked out and we told her if it was a boy, he would be James Follett, and if it was a girl, she would be Ava James.  The technician waited until the very end of the sonogram and then said, "It looks like you're going to have a little Ava."  I looked at Jimi and could tell he was just as happy as I was.  We are having a baby GIRL!  It was a beautiful experience.

Our baby girl moved around a lot.  She was facing down at one point and moved her legs around like she was trying to get comfortable.  It was so cute.  She also raised her arm up at one point and made a fist.  The technician took about 90 pictures in 30 minutes.  We got 8 pictures to take home.  Here are a couple of my favorites:

I love this one of baby Ava's profile.  Her little nose and mouth are so perfect.

Cute little arm and fist

Now I can't wait to meet baby Ava!  The technician said that she is already 1 pound and 1 ounce and is measuring within 4 days of our original due date of June 7.  Only 116 more days to go!
