On My Mind

Ever since Ava was born, I started taking my showers at night.  Mornings are always just too hectic for me to worry about showering, especially when I was nursing her.  In the shower I always think of the most random stuff.  Most of the time, I try to decide what I'm going to wear the next day, but of course that only takes about 3 minutes.  Here are some of the other things that are on my mind...

Big Brother - I've been watching Big Brother like the devoted fan that I am for the entire season.  A few times it wasn't on (because of football, or golf, or some other thing that no one cares about) and since I couldn't reasonable stay up until 3 am to watch it, I had to watch it online and that made me so sad!  There's nothing better than watching your guilty pleasure TV show when it is supposed to be on!  After the show had only been on for 2 or 3 weeks I publicly announced (on facebook, lol) that Derrick was my favorite houseguest.  I am happy to say that he is still going strong and quite possibly might win the game!

The zoo - we went to the zoo this past weekend (the day Ava turned 15 months) so we could see the 3 female, Sumatran tiger cubs that are at our zoo right now.  They were born there in May, so they are now 4 months old.  They are only on exhibit from 9-10:30 am and we were rushing around that morning to make sure we saw them.  There was a crowd of people there when we arrived, but I scooped up Ava out of her stroller and we found a little area of glass that was open.  At first she couldn't see them because they were toward the back fence of their cage.  But then they started playing around, jumping up on their mom's head, biting her tail, and running up and down the rocks.  Ava saw them, smiled, and then started sniffing and saying "woof, woof."  It was the cutest thing ever!  She even laughed a couple of times when the cubs were playing.  I'm so glad we made it!

My brother's birthday - my brother will be 25 on September 15.  He has graduated from college and now has a full-time job, so he is making plans to move out of our mom's house.  I found some good kitchen stuff for him at TJMaxx.  You just never know what kind of stuff you'll find at that store.  I got him a big saucepan, a skillet, a cutting board, and a slotted stirring spoon.  I also raided our stockpile for some other essentials like paper towels, a 113-load jug of laundry detergent, clorox wipes, toothpaste, salad dressing, and some other stuff.  We just had an over-abundance of those things.  My brother has a serious girlfriend, but she's still in college, so they're not engaged yet.  When I moved out of my mom's house it was to get married and move into an apartment with Jimi.  So, we were able to register for everything we needed.  My brother is going to have to supply a lot of his stuff on his own, so I thought I should help him out by donating to the cause.

Couponing - there have not been very many great couponing deals lately.  I've got a good stockpile of certain things that have been on sale at several different stores, but overall our weekly savings has only been about 35%.  This might sound good to most people, but when you've saved 55-60% the standard is just that much higher because you know what it's like to save that much.  Hopefully some good deals start popping up!

Running - I would really like to get back into running, and I keep telling myself that when it gets cooler outside, I'll run after we put Ava to bed.  Well, it's almost time for me to put my money where my mouth is (speaking of, that's like one of my favorite songs ever).  It's supposed to get down to 59 degrees here by Friday!

Fall - I love summer, it's always been my favorite season, but I have to admit I'm excited for cooler weather.  Sweaters, leaves falling, warm cups of coffee...this was the time when Jimi and I had our first date.  Fall now reminds me of falling in love with my wonderful husband.

Second child - anytime I get into a conversation with someone about Ava, they nod and smile and then promptly ask, "So, are you guys ready for a 2nd one now?"  Ummm, NO!  I can kind of understand why people's minds automatically go there, because cute babies + more cute babies *should* = awesome, but I just tell everyone that we're undecided.  We have tabled that conversation at least for the next year.  I would prefer to table it until we feel like having it, whenever or IFever that is.  Having Ava was so traumatic (36 hour labor, ending in a C-section) and being pregnant was very scary for me.  I was on the verge of preeclampsia and was on bed rest for a month.  And I know people say all pregnancies are different, but I'm pretty sure if I got pregnant right now I would have P1PSD (post 1st pregnancy stress disorder).

Welp, that's about everything that's on my mind right now (at least, those are the big things).  Hope everyone's having a great week!
