Today at the Library

Saturdays are the best.  Since Ava goes to bed by 7:00 every night, we only get to see her and play with her for 2 hours after work and she's usually cranky because she's tired from a full day at daycare.  That's why we always look forward to our Saturdays together.

Today Ava slept in until 8:00 am.  That's the latest she's ever slept in.  Most days she wakes up between 6:00-6:30 am.  This was a long week and she has been recovering from an ear infection.  I knew that since she slept in so late that she probably wouldn't need a morning nap.  Lately she's only been sleeping for 15-20 minutes in the mornings anyway.  So we had a nice, leisurely breakfast.  Ava had banana baby food (the only baby food she eats now), a slice of banana bread with peanut butter, and milk.  Then I played with her while Jimi showered.  Then he played with her while I got ready. Then we went to the library.

First, we found some new board books for Ava.  Then, we let her play in the kid's section.  She did so good playing with the other kids there.  There was one boy younger than her, a boy her same age, a 3-year old boy, and a girl a little older than her.  Whenever I see Ava around other kids I can't help but compare them.  The boy that was also 15-months was walking, but he was so hyper.  He just ran around everywhere and pushed his stroller into everyone and everything.  Ava would try to give him toys to play with, but he wasn't interested.  The girl who was probably a year older than Ava, took a toy away from her and Ava didn't even cry.  When the mom tried to discipline her, she just laughed.  The boy that was younger than Ava just watched her and smiled at her.  He wanted to walk so badly, but his mom had to help him.  Ava had the most fun with the 3-year old boy.  She would hand him toys, he would tell her their colors, and then he would give it back to her.  He also seemed to want a lot of attention from me and would jump from thing to thing, but it seemed like Ava was able to relate to him the most.  At one point, Ava was just staring at one of the kids' moms and she told Ava that she had "the most beautiful blue eyes."  Of course I think this all the time, but it's awesome when other people notice, too.

Ava playing with a puzzle.
Her shirt says "read with me"...we got it from the library when I signed
Ava up for her very first library card this summer.
Ava played with puzzles, blocks, some activity cubes, a wooden doll house, and these plastic connectors that looked like little molecules.  I thought she would love to see the fish in the aquarium, since that was one of her favorite things to do this summer when we would go to Baby Bookworms, but she seemed pretty disinterested in them this time.  Ava played for almost two hours without fussing once!  Then, I took her to get her diaper changed while Jimi picked out some DVDs.  I was worried that she would get upset when I had to change her diaper, but she did so good!  She held onto her shorts and stayed very still.  When I went to get a paper towel she laughed and laughed.  She thinks those automatic paper towel dispensers are so funny!  We met Jimi back in the movie section.  While he was getting a new library card set up for himself (we always have just used mine), Ava started saying "Daddy, daddy, hi daddy, daddy, daddy."  It was the cutest thing!!

We ate lunch at the library cafe.  Ava had vegetable quiche with a side of fresh fruit.  She ate 3/4 of it plus some grapes and cantaloupe.  We got her cleaned up and whenever we are getting ready to leave, I tell her, "okay, we're going home, let's say bye."  And she said, "byyyee."  :)  On the way home, she was so calm and quiet...I just knew that her belly was full and she was ready for a nap.  We laid her down at 12:30 (her regular nap time) and now she's sleeping peacefully.  What a great morning with my family!
