12 Weeks

How far along? 12 Weeks and 4 Days
Total weight gain/loss: 0
Maternity clothes?  My mom, grandma, and I went Black Friday shopping (at 3:00 in the afternoon).  We didn't get all crazy about it and go late at night or early in the morning.  My mom said that she feels like it's tradition to go shopping at some point after Thanksgiving.  I was worn out after 3 hours of shopping, but it was a lot of fun.  It's been 2 months since I've gone shopping.  My mom bought me 4 pairs of maternity pants (2 jeans and 2 pairs of dress pants) and my grandma bought me 2 packs of maternity underwear.  They're technically Christmas presents, but I really need the pants now, so my mom let me take them home so I can start wearing them.  I'm so glad I got them because it seems like my belly can just keep growing into them.  That stretchy material is amazing!  It's going to be really hard going back to wearing regular pants with zippers and buttons after having the baby!
Stretch marks? No.  My grandma was adamant about getting some cream now so I don't get horrible stretch marks like she did.  I'm sure I'll end up getting some kind of lotion or oil, but I don't know how much good it will do.
Sleep: 8-10 hours of sleep every night
Best moment this week: Thanksgiving.  When we were at my grandma and grandpa's house we all went around and said what we were thankful for.  My mom said, "I'm thankful I'm going to be a grandma!" and my grandpa said, "I'm thankful I'm going to be a great-grandpa!"  It made me so happy to be able to spend the whole day with my family who is just as excited about little baby Norman as we are.
Have you told family and friends: Yes.  We have told everyone and it feels great!  I told the entire staff I work with, which is at least 50 people, since I work at a school.  I also told the 22 first graders I teach.  I said that I had some news I wanted to share with them...I said my husband and I are going to have a baby.  Then I just watched their faces to see if they understood.  Some of them looked confused, a couple started smiling, and some looked straight at my belly.  Then one kid raised his hand and said, "So, you mean you're pregnant" and it was more of a statement than a question.  I said yes, I'm pregnant.  It was as if that's what I should have said from the beginning because then they all started smiling and nodding their heads.  I thought they wouldn't understand what the word pregnant meant, but I was definitely wrong.  I explained that the baby is in my belly right now, but it's just very small.  I said it might not look like I'm pregnant yet, but my belly will get bigger and bigger as the baby grows.  I told them that the reason I had to be gone last Friday was because we had our first doctor's appointment and we got to hear the baby's heartbeat.  Then they wanted to know if they could see the baby after it's born.  I had to explain that the baby isn't due until June, which is summer break for them.  I said that I won't be at school in the summer and they won't either, so they'll have to see the baby when they're in second grade.  I'll probably bring the baby to the Halloween parade next year and that would be a good time for them to see the baby.  After our conversation, we went about our day like normal.  Two of my students kept hugging me thoughout the day.  It was pretty cute, and I'm sure they'll be the ones who start rubbing my belly as it gets bigger.  We also made it facebook official and got a lot of love from our friends!  :)
Miss Anything? Chai tea lattes - probably going to break down and have one SOON!  The doctor said it would be fine to have a little caffeine.  I knew this of course, but have avoided caffeine completely so far.
Movement: No
Food cravings: Yoplait whips, Cheez-Its, popcorn, frozen fruit bars (like popsicles, but with real strawberry chunks in them), Thanksgiving food (green bean casserole, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce).
Anything making you queasy or sick: Getting too hungry and brushing my teeth.  The nausea is almost gone and it feels great!!
Have you started to show yet: Yes, I have a little bump almost all day now.
Gender prediction: Based on the heartbeat we heard at our 11-week appointment, I'm going to guess that baby Norman is a girl.  However, I know that I could be completely wrong.  Can't wait to find out in January!
Labor Signs: No
Symptoms: Fatigue still hits me, but over the break I've been able to sleep a little later and stay up a little later...it's been great!
Belly Button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? On
Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy
Looking forward to: Decorating for Christmas.  We already have a real wreath from my husband's dad hanging in our dining room.  I also bought a candle from Bath and Body Works yesterday that's called Holiday.  It seriously smells like Christmas and I love it!

Here's some info. from babycenter.com on pregnancy at 12 weeks:

How your baby's growing:

The most dramatic development this week: reflexes. Your baby's fingers will soon begin to open and close, his toes will curl, his eye muscles will clench, and his mouth will make sucking movements. In fact, if you prod your abdomen, your baby will squirm in response, although you won't be able to feel it. His intestines, which have grown so fast that they protrude into the umbilical cord, will start to move into his abdominal cavity about now, and his kidneys will begin excreting urine into his bladder.  Meanwhile, nerve cells are multiplying rapidly, and in your baby's brain, synapses are forming furiously. His face looks unquestionably human: His eyes have moved from the sides to the front of his head, and his ears are right where they should be. From crown to rump, your baby-to-be is just over 2 inches long (about the size of a lime) and weighs half an ounce.
