Saturday with Our Nephews

Saturday with our nephews in 2 words was:  wonderful and exhausting!  We first arrrived at 7 am to find the boys still in their big boy beds (they share a room), happy and awake.  Mom and Dad left within 20 minutes of us arriving.  They told us all about their favorite meals, how much allergy medicine to give, when they should lay down for a nap, and to call if we have any other questions.  Thankfully, they left us with the car that had the carseats in it, so we didn't have to mess with transfering those.  We fed them their breakfast and played around the house for about 2 1/2 hours.

We all started to get a little stir-crazy so we decided to go to the zoo.  I kept worrying that it would storm, so when Beckham asked where we were going I kept telling him that it was a surprise.  I thought that if it started raining on our way to the zoo, we could just drive to the museum or discovery center instead.  We made it to the zoo, pulled out the stroller for Sam, and had a great time for 1 1/2 hours.  We saw the bald eagles, bears, giraffes, petting zoo animals, coyote, hawks, and orangutangs before it started sprinkling.  We left and went to Wendy's for lunch.  Right when we got there Beckham asked for pop and I said that he could have chocolate milk instead.  They both did really well - ate most of their lunch and were actually pretty quiet in public.  I think walking around the zoo wore them out!

On our way home, Sam started falling asleep in the car.  We got home right around noon.  I gave Sam some milk while my husband read One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish by Dr. Seuss to Beckham.  When it was over he asked for a second book, but he was already yawning and leaning onto my husband, so we put them both in their beds for nap time.  We turned their nap time CD on and sat with them while I rubbed Sam's back.  It took about 5 minutes, and Sam was out.  I leaned over and told Beckham very quietly that Sam was sleeping and it was time for him to go to sleep, too.  My husband told him that if he still wanted to read a second book after his nap, he would read it with him.

The boys slept from 12:45 to 3:30.  I fell asleep in the living room recliner and my husband fell asleep on the couch for about 45 minutes.  It was heaven!  We both felt refreshed and ready for the rest of the afternoon.  When the boys woke up, it was so cute.  We could hear them talking and giggling with each other.  We walked into their bedroom and sat down on their beds and the first thing Beckham said was, "I took a big boy nap!"  I told him how proud I was of him.  Sam was just grinning from ear to ear.  It was adorable and I knew that they were going to be in a much better mood for the rest of the day than if they had little to no nap.

We watched an episode of Arthur on Netflix and played with their toys until 5:00, when I made dinner.  We had bowtie pasta with marinara sauce, broccoli, and milk.  We all ate the same thing, at the same time and talked with each other about everything we had done.  I asked Beckham what his favorite part of the zoo was and he said the eagles.  Their mom (my sister-in-law) got home at 6:00 and we had a great time telling her everything we did.  I also took lots of pictures throughout the day and shared them with her.  Here are a few of my favorites:
