Sleep: Ava has been very active at night for the past week. I checked my phone one night and she was awake and kicking strong from 2:45-5:15 am.
Best moment this week: We celebrated my 29th birthday on Saturday. We had several visitors since I'm on bed rest. My husband's dad and grandma came by, and so did my mom. It was nice to see everyone. We showed off our maternity pictures (that I made into a photo book) and Ava's nursery. My husband got me exactly what I wanted - a new robe. He got me a robe when we were first married, almost 6 years ago. So, it was time for a new one. It is so plush, I love it! I got money from pretty much everyone else, which is fine by me. I have already ordered a video camera with some of my birthday money. I have been thinking about getting a video camera since Christmas and couldn't bring myself to spend $200 on one. Our brother-in-law told us that we could get a really good, name-brand one for $150, so I've been holding out. I finally found a Sony last week from Best Buy for $149. I was getting nervous that we wouldn't have one by the time the baby was born, but now we will!
Miss Anything?: Right now I miss my old body more than anything. I miss being able to sleep on my stomach, hop in my car and go shopping, and go on a run.

Here's some info. from babycenter.com on pregnancy at 38 weeks:
How your baby's growing:
Your baby has really plumped up. She weighs about 6.8 pounds and she's over 19 1/2 inches long (like a leek). She has a firm grasp, which you'll soon be able to test when you hold her hand for the first time! Her organs have matured and are ready for life outside the womb.Wondering what color your baby's eyes will be? You may not be able to tell right away. If she's born with brown eyes, they'll likely stay brown. If she's born with steel gray or dark blue eyes, they may stay gray or blue or turn green, hazel, or brown by the time she's 9 months old. That's because a child's irises (the colored part of the eye) may gain more pigment in the months after she's born, but they usually won't get "lighter" or more blue. (Green, hazel, and brown eyes have more pigment than gray or blue eyes.)
Doctor's Appointment Update - We had our 38-week doctor's appointment on Wednesday. Here are the highlights:
- Ava's heartrate - 147
- Urine dipstick test - Trace amounts of protein
- Fundal height - 41 cm
- Cervical check - I had the doctor check my cervix to see if I was making any progress. I had gone back and forth trying to decide if I would have him check it today, just because the first time he did it I was 35 weeks and it hurt so bad! It wasn't as bad this time, probably because I knew what to expect. He said I was 2 cm. dilated! I think we were all happy to hear this because it showed that my body is making progress.
- My blood pressure - In the doctor's office it was really high - 148 over 98. This is Hypertension Stage 1. Since it was so high, the doctor sent us over to Labor and Delivery for more tests.
- They hooked me up to 3 different monitors - one for my blood pressure, one for contractions, and one for Ava's heartrate. They also took 3 vials of blood. I'm still not quite sure what the bloodwork was for. I think the doctor said one of the tests was to see how my blood clotting abilities were. This might be related to preeclampsia.
- Anyway...all 4 blood pressure readings were really good - very low. One of them was 98 over 62 (the lowest it's ever been). It shocked me that my blood pressure could vary that much from the doctor's office just an hour before.
- I was also surprised that I was having contractions and didn't even feel them. I saw them show up on the monitor.
- Ava performed wonderfully. The nurse said she looked "gorgeous." I thought this was hillarious since we couldn't actually see her - she was just talking about her movements and heartrate.
- After being in Labor and Delivery for about 1 1/2 hours, we were finally dismissed. The doctor decided to let us leave since my blood pressure looked much better. We are supposed to go back to see him on Friday to get my blood pressure checked again.
- We also have an induction date scheduled! We were told that if I haven't gone into labor on my own, the doctor wants to do an induction on Tuesday, June 4 at 7:00 pm. They will begin by trying to soften and thin my cervix Tuesday night, then probably administer Pitocin on Wednesday, June 5.
- Next appointment - Friday (2 days away) then Tuesday (induction day)!
